Blanking Formula
P=L x T x S / 2000
P = Tons L = Cut Length
T= Material Thickness S = Material Shear Strength
- Note: No shear on die, add 25%; Partial shear use full tonnage, Full shear on die, reduce by 20% to 25%
Energy Estimation Formula
BE = T x Mt x 0.5
BE = Blanking Energy (Inch Tons) T
= Tonnage Mt = Material Thickness
DE = T x Dl x 0.63
DE = Draw Energy (Inch Tons) T = Tonnage
Dl = Draw Length
Stripping Formula: P = 1.7 x L x T
P = Stripping Tonnage L = Length of Cut T = Material Thickness
Hydraulic Press Speed
- The SPM is determined by calculating time for each phase of the ram stroke: Rapid advance, pressing, dwell (if any), and rapid return stroke.
T = D x 60 / IPM
T = Time in Seconds D= Distance of
ram travel in inches
IPM = Ram speed in Inches Per Minute
Note: Add 0.50 seconds for valve shift to total time per
stroke. Then divide the total time into 60 seconds for strokes per
minute: 60 / Total time = Strokes Per Minute.
